The New England Patriots have announced they have released WR Brandon LaFell, a week before free-agency begins.
LaFell spent two seasons with the Patriots, after spending his four four with the Carolina Panthers, and played a significant role in their offense on the way to their Super Bowl XLIX victory over the Seahawks. LaFell caught 74 passes for 953 yards and seven touchdowns during the 2014 regular season before adding 13 more catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns in the playoffs.
LaFell, however, has a tendancy to get cases of the drops at times, and he had some big drops this past season for a Patriots receiving corps that was in bad shape due to injury for part of the season.
His departure saves the team $2.675 million under the cap.
