The Carolina Panthers lost part of their affectionately named "bomb squad" to free agency today. The bomb squad, comprised to kicker Graham Gano, long snapper J.J. Jansen and punter Brad Nortman, is now only at two-thirds strength. Nortman decided not to re-sign with the Panthers and has signed a four-year $8.8 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Panthers did offer Nortman what was deemed a "low-level" contract, but it wasn't enough to bring him back to Carolina.
The Panthers do however have another punter on the roster ready to go, having signed Swayze Waters, the 2014 special teams player of the year in the Canadian Football League. Waters does have experience with some NFL teams, having spent time with the Lions, Steelers and Raiders during the offseasons of 2009-2011, however he has never appeared in an NFL regular season game.
