The ACC men's basketball conference will send a record breaking six teams to the Sweet 16 of March Madness. Below is a list of teams that are in the Sweet 16 from the ACC and their seed.
(1) North Carolina
(6) Notre Dame
The top seeded North Carolina Tarheels have made their way to the round of 16 with two blow-out wins over Florida Gulf Coast and Providence, and will face fifth seeded Indiana in the Sweet 16.
The ACC's other number one seed in the NCAA Tournament, Virginia, blow past Hampton in the first round and had a tight game against a good Butler team to punch their ticket to the Sweet 16. Virginia will face off against four seeded Iowa St for the right to advance to the Elite 8.
Three seeded Miami hasn't has quite such an easy road to the Sweet 16, beating Buffalo by seven and Wichita St by eight in their first two games respectively. The Hurricanes will face their toughest test yet in two seeded Villanova in the round of 16.
Duke survived a scare from UNC Wilmington in the first round of the tournament on to have to hang on late against a scrappy Yale team to get to the Sweet 16, but in March, it's all about survive and advance. The Blue Devils will see their toughest team in the tournament when they face off against the Oregon Ducks in the Sweet 16.
Notre Dame topped Michigan in the first round and beat Stephen F. Austin with a tip-in with just 1.5 seconds left to move on to the second weekend of the tournament. Notre Dame will face off against Wisconsin, who upset two seeded Xavier in the round of 32, for the change to play in the Elite 8.
Syracuse, a team who was on the bubble on selection Sunday, and a team that most thought would miss the NCAA tournament has proven the committee right in their decision to put the Orange in the field of 64, by beating Temple and Middle Tennessee State, who upset a National Championship favorite, Michigan St in the first round. Syracuse now gets to face off against a very good Gonzaga team in the Elite 8.
My prediction for the ACC in the Sweet 16: 3-3.
I think North Carolina, Virginia and Syracuse will advance, while Duke, Notre Dame and Miami will fall.
UPDATED: The ACC now has 3, THREE teams in the Elite 8 in the 2016 tournament. And North Carolina has a 20 point lead with 10 minutes left over Indiana, which would make it four ACC teams in the Elite 8!... Complete ACC dominance.
